Following a vibrant 1st Open Science Meeting for Sunrise III in June 2026, the 2nd Sunrise III Open Science Meeting is planned on 28 – 30 September, 2026, at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). Online participation will also be possible.

Sunrise III is a 1-meter balloon-borne solar observatory that investigates the Sun’s magnetic field and plasma flows. In July 2024, it achieved a successful 6.5-day journey through the stratosphere, delivering excellent quality seeing-free data in the near-UV, visible, and near-IR spectral regions. The 1st Science Meeting discussed the first papers published in a Focus Issue in The Astrophysical Journal Letters (https://iopscience.iop.org/collections/apjl-260303-220_Focus-on-Sunrise-III) and announced the public release of the Sunrise III science-quality Mission Archive (https://sr3data.mps.mpg.de/). See also separate announcements on these two events in this issue of Solar News.

The 2nd Open Sunrise III Science Meeting will discuss several team and community projects based on Sunrise III data and will aim to increase awareness of the valuable Sunrise III data resource within the solar and heliophysics communities.

Tentative registration and abstract submission deadlines are planned around  September 10, 2026. The dates will be finalized in due time. The meeting program will be announced shortly thereafter.

Location: Johns Hopkins APL, South Campus, Bldg.200, Room E100 and online.
