With this position, TLS aims to strengthen its activities in investigating the magnetic activity of the Sun and stars, helio- and asteroseismology, or linking solar activity to space weather.
The Thüringer Landessternwarte (TLS – Thuringian State Observatory) is an astronomical research institute located near the university city of Jena. TLS performs research in solar and stellar physics, extrasolar planets, and extragalactic physics. TLS operates the 2-metre Alfred Jensch telescope, an international station of the Low Frequency Array (LOFAR), and a new solar laboratory for developing instrumentation for synoptic multi-line observations of the Sun towards SPRING (Solar Physics Research Integrated Network Group). Furthermore, the institute participates in many instrumentation projects, including the ANDES spectrograph for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). It contributes to the PLATOSpec instrument for the ground-based follow-up observations for the ESA PLATO mission. Moreover, TLS researchers carry out observations at other solar and astronomical telescopes worldwide.
The successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to develop an internationally recognized research program, attract independent research funding, and engage with junior researchers. The ability to contribute to the scientific exploitation of instrumentation operated or developed by TLS is an asset.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree.

The position is available from now on. Upon start, the contract will be termed for two years. An assessment will then take place. After a successful evaluation, the position will be tenured.
