We are pleased to announce that Jingxiu Wang has been selected to write the Solar Physics memoir for 2027. Dr. Wang is an astronomer at the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has been an influential scientist working in the area of solar magnetism over the last 40 plus years. His contributions include: 1) concepts and methods in solar vector magnetogram analysis, e.g., magnetic non-potentiality and its quantitative descriptions in constraining flare productivity, the first quantitative estimate of magnetic helicity for active regions, and the first evidence of magnetic reconnection in the photospheric layer; 2) work leading to the discovery of magnetic flux cancellation and a two-step reconnection model as a trigger eruptive flares; 3) pioneering work on the solar intranetwork magnetic field. Jingxiu Wang is the first PhD of solar physics awarded in China. His career has spanned a remarkable era of growth and progress in Chinese solar physics studies.

The Solar Physics memoir series has three main goals: (1) to honor colleagues for distinguished careers, (2) to provide long-term personal perspectives on solar science; and (3) to help educate younger members of the community. The selection committee is chaired by Ed Cliver and includes Peng-Fei Chen, Hebe Cremades, Jim Klimchuk, K.D. Leka, Eric Priest, Kazunari Shibata, Sami Solanki, and Astrid Veronig. Please contact any of them with suggestions for next year’s honoree.
