Following the highly successful 6.5-day stratospheric balloon flight in July 2024 from Sweden to Canada, we are excited to announce that the first set of publications — the “Early-Science Papers” — is now appearing in the ongoing Sunrise III Focus Issue of the Astrophysical Journal (Letters).
The ApJL Focus Issue is initially populated by 6 publications plus the overview article “Sunrise III: Instrument, mission, data, and first results” (Solanki et al., 2026). These will be joined by further articles over the coming months as they are accepted and published, covering the photosphere and often the chromosphere in the quiet Sun, sunspots, plage, network, a filament, flux-emergence and flaring regions.
