Key Responsibilities:
* Operate the Dunn Solar Telescope and its associated instruments.
* Provide technical, scientific, and logistical support to astronomers.
* Assist with data reduction, analysis, and preparation of science-ready data for the solar community.
* Perform quality assurance tests on the telescope, instruments, and data.
* Work with engineering staff to maintain and improve facilities.
Required Qualifications: A candidate must meet one of the following equivalencies:
* A Master’s degree in a related field plus three (3) years of professional experience with astronomical instruments and data reduction.
* A Doctorate that includes observing experience.
* A Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus five (5) years of relevant experience.
Position Details:
* Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
* Schedule: This is not a standard 9-5 position. The work schedule may include night shifts (8 pm to 6 am), afternoons, weekends, or holidays.
* Work Environment: Involves moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for more than four hours. The environment may have moderate exposure to elements like extreme temperatures, dust, and loud noises.
