Advances in Helio- and Asteroseismology and Solar-Stellar Connections
This special session at the joint AAS/SPD/LAD meeting will provide unique opportunities to discuss recent observational, experimental, modeling, and theoretical advances in helio- and asteroseismic diagnostics of the solar and stellar interiors and fundamental physical processes inside the stars and also explore how solar physics can inform stellar astrophysics and vice versa.

Three decades of helioseismology and magnetic field observations with GONG: discoveries, modern studies, and future plans
Synoptic observations of the Sun are critical for our understanding of long-term changes in the properties of solar activity. NSF’s Global Oscillations Network Group (GONG) stations have been in operation for the last 30 years (since 1995). Together with Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI), GONG observations continue fueling the research and operational space weather forecast. In this session, we will explore the significant contributions of GONG observations to helioseismology and solar magnetic field studies, as well as discuss the future of synoptic observations in these fields beyond GONG and HMI.
