The minimum requirement for applying is a PhD degree in Astronomy, Physics, Engineering, or Mathematics, or an equivalent experience in Universities or other institutions qualified for issuing a PhD-level degree. Proficiency in the Italian language is not required.
Initial gross salary, including benefits, will be approximately equivalent to an entry-level staff research position.
The Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory (OAC) of the Italian Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (INAF) leads an Italian consortium overseeing the development of the slit assembly for the EUVST (EUV High-throughput Spectroscopic Telescope) spectrograph on board the SOLAR-C mission, the next JAXA-led Solar Physics mission (https://solar-c.nao.ac.jp/en).
The successful applicant is expected to:
* Study fundamental processes in the solar atmosphere through simultaneous spectroscopic observations and multi-band imaging in the UV and EUV, obtained with space missions currently in operation, with specific reference to the main science objectives of the future SOLAR-C mission.
* Participate in Italian SOLAR-C Consortium meetings and other international scientific meetings.
* Contribute to developing joint observing campaigns, and to planning and observation parameter trade studies, as appropriate, in preparation for future observations of the SOLAR-C mission.
The successful candidate is also encouraged to develop her/his own research program and participate in proposals for future projects.
