Thank you to the SPD community for the tremendous support and advocacy that you all have done for the scientific discipline of Heliophysics. We have two exciting updates to share.

Heliophysics Makes the Dictionary!
We are thrilled to announce that heliophysics has been officially added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, with the 12th edition hard copy released November 18th and online at https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/heliophysics. This milestone is the result of a true community effort, sustained by all of us, the scientists, engineers, technicians, and broader heliophysics workforce who use and elevate the term every day. Its inclusion reflects not only the growing visibility of our discipline, but also the collective work that has shaped heliophysics into a vibrant, recognized field connecting the Sun to the impacts throughout the solar system.

COSPAR Heliophysics Guidelines Released
We are extremely excited to see that COSPAR officially released the Heliophysics Guidelines during the 6th COSPAR Symposium. See the full post below from Jean-Claude Worms describing the Heliophysics Guidelines. The SPD Committee provided a letter to COSPAR strongly endorsing the Heliophysics Guidelines. The purpose of the SPD is the advancement of the study of the Sun and the coordination of such research with other branches of science. As such, we are fully supportive of the Heliophysics Guidelines, which defines Heliophysics as the science domain of the Sun. Specifically, Heliophysics is the study of the Sun and its effects throughout the Solar System. We are further supportive of the definition of Space Weather as applied research on the dynamic, highly variable conditions of the space environment, including the Sun.
